The fuel economy classification of energy saver tires, or energy saving, is between A and G on a color-coded scale: A (green) is the highest fuel economy class. According to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), some of these products have a resistance value up to 30% lower than the products marketed in the 1980s, while the gap between the best and the least performing items is such that to which the former give a resistance equal to half the latter.
In addition to the energy saver tires, it is possible to obtain further fuel savings with an automatic control of the optimum pressure through tire pressure monitoring systems, which through sensors installed on the tire detect the pressure and temperature values and communicate them to the driver. It is estimated that the use of low-resistance tires, together with greater attention to tire pressure, can reduce the consumption of heavy road vehicles by up to 4%.
We then talked about eco-driving: a virtuous vehicle driving technique that reduces energy consumption, pollutant emissions and increases safety behind the wheel. The eco-driving style can be adopted by everyone, but there are training courses for ecological and safe driving dedicated to local public transport drivers.
Eco-driving courses for LPT drivers provide for the installation on board vehicles of equipment that allows you to monitor the main parameters: instant and average fuel consumption, instant and average speed, accelerations, CO2 emissions and more. At the end of the course an evaluation of the results obtained in terms of fuel economy is made. According to the data collected, the initiatives that involved some national companies have allowed an annual fuel saving of 5-15 percent.
