The evaluation ofenvironmental impact of electric vehicles it must consider numerous factors, especially indirect ones, in order for it to be carried out correctly.
There is no doubt that, precisely because it is powered by batteries and not by petrol or diesel, this type of car does not produce polluting emissions for the air. The electric cars they also have the advantage of not producing noise pollution because they have no combustion engine and this is another value that should not be underestimated considering the harmfulness of the noises we are exposed to every day, especially in large cities.
L'environmental impact however, it must also consider a series of indirect factors which, as we shall see, involve important reflections.
The first factor consists in the impact that the mass adoption of these vehicles would have on the electricity network which, if not adequately strengthened, could favor local blackouts or on a larger scale. Exactly as happens in the summer, when the mass use of air conditioners causes blackouts of the electricity network, a large number of electric cars in office at the same time could generate the same consequences.
The strengthening of the energy network is therefore essential but at this point it is of fundamental importance that in order to obtain it, new coal-fired plants or in any case fueled by polluting fuel are not built but that plants are built to produce electricity from clean and renewable sources: water, sun event.
Of similar importance is the creation of a capillary network of columns for charging electric vehicles and on this point our country is definitely behind if we consider that in Europe there are over 27,000 recharging points available while in Italy there are only 351 (source: 7 curiosities about electric cars in Europe)
Another necessity imposed by the adoption of electric cars is to create a valid circuit that can guarantee the correct disposal of exhausted batteries. To date, specialized disposal companies are still few and the question, considering that electric cars have been spreading for a few years, has not yet emerged in all its relevance.
The massive adoption of electric cars could also have important socio-economic consequences by favoring a further reduction in the price of crude oil with the risk of undermining and destabilizing Middle Eastern countries that base a large part of their economy on the sale of oil.
However, it is clear that these factors cannot be considered as "blockers" for the spread of electric cars but that they must only be points to which a solution must be found.
Fossil fuels are destined to become extinct and are certainly an important pollutant and i electric (or hybrid) motors to date they have proved to be the only real alternative to internal combustion engines.
It is clear that car manufacturers are responsible for investing immediately so as not to be caught unprepared for the change taking place: the houses that will not keep up with the times and with new technologies are in fact destined to have serious problems of profitability that would have negative consequences for employment.
Create islands of self-sufficient columns powered by solar panels it could be one of the solutions to be developed to solve the issue related to the efficiency of the distribution system and the capillarity of the recharging points.
Some virtuous companies are investing to create solutions capable of combining functionality, efficiency and design, offering creative solutions to the problem of charging points.

Finding an effective solution to the environmental impact problems of electric cars is therefore certainly possible: the important thing is not to be tempted by dangerous simplifications that would otherwise cause serious problems for the circulation of our cars.
