Biological control in the home and in the garden

We are talking about plants, of course, of those we are used to having at home or in the garden. Here the limited and confined environment should make it easier biological fight against parasites, but paradoxically the opposite is true because even predators (including ladybugs) need their spaces and are not always welcome in turn. So let's see what can be done.

An example of what has just been said are the earwigs, those dermoptera up to 2 centimeters long characterized by the presence of a pair of pliers in the back of the body: it may not be pleasant to see them around, but they too are precious allies in the biological struggle.

Earwigs attack flowers and fruits (dahlias for example) but feed on eggs and larvae of other, more tiny and infesting parasites. If there are not too many, let the scissors live and use them for the biological struggle. If they become too many, eliminate them with DIY traps avoiding the use of chemical pesticides (try natural systems first).

Often in the home and in the garden the only form of biological struggle practicable is the use of products that contain the Bacillus thuringiensis, a bacterium that contrasts lepidoptera and the pine processionary. The recommended dosage is 25-50 grams (depending on the extent of the infestation) for each decalitre of water.

For the biological struggle against the oziorinchi, which infest in particular rhododendrons and azaleas, suspensions of nematodes specifics that control these parasites, but with warnings. The temperature to begin with, which must always be above 15 ° C.

Furthermore, the sponges normally on the market containing nematodes for the biological struggle they must be applied immediately because they are not preserved. The application is done by squeezing the sponges, which allows you to extract the nematodes, after having soaked them for about an hour in 5-6 liters of warm water.

Best time and time for the application of nematode sponges for biological struggle they coincide with summer towards evening, because the humidity of the night favors the survival of nematodes. As for the dosage, it depends on the type of sponges and it is good to follow the instructions on the package.
