FSC certification, because it matters

If you've been to Ikea, you've certainly come across the logo of FSC certification, a sort of stylized tree that allows you to identify objects produced with high social and environmental standards. There FSC certification (Forest Stewardship Council), is the main guarantee mechanism on the origin of wood and paper.

FSC certification
“It is an international certification system that guarantees that the raw material used to make a wood or paper product comes from forests where strict environmental, social and economic standards are respected.

Most of the papers and cards on the market in Italy have a FSC certification "Mixed". What does this mean?
As part of the FSC certification intended for paper, there are four product categories:

  • FSC Puro: papers made entirely with cellulose FSC.
  • Mixed FSC: papers made with variable percentages of material FSC certified and fibers from controlled forests.
  • Mixed FSC with recycling: papers made with variable percentages of material FSC certified and recycled and controlled material.
  • Post-consumer recycled FSC: produced with wood and / or fibers obtained from the recycling of material that has reached the end of its use.

To protect forests, consumers should buy paper and other wood products, with FSC certification pure. Each label FSC includes a license or a Certificate Code, this allows you to identify the supplier of the product (FSC certified) in order to monitor the beginning of the life cycle of the object up to the supply of the raw material.

Forests are vital for the Earth but even more important for the survival of some local communities. Our forests purify the air, protect biodiversity, constitute the natural habitat of many species and play a crucial role in mitigating the effects of climate change. This is why it is important to check that the wooden products purchased are marked with FSC certification.

Who issues the FSC certification?
The Forest Stewardship Council (acronym for FSC), is an international non-governmental organization, non-profit. The NGO has become an internationally recognized forest certification system. THE FSC certified they can only be issued by certification bodies that are in possession of accreditation FSC by the independent organization Accreditation Services International (ASI).
