Recycling, never again a puzzle to solve! With the Waste Dictionary Francesco Cucari has managed to provide a comfortable one guide to all citizens who find themselves having to sort through many material containers that are not always trivially identifiable in categories. Ipad, smartphone or PC, now there is one guide which explains everything and, if desired, also warns on collection days of its own Municipality. If the Municipality is a "Different Municipality".
1) How and when did the idea of the waste dictionary come about?
In my small town in Basilicata, Rotondella, the recycling and I noticed that the impact with the differentiated in the family was very positive, but we often found ourselves with a I decline in hand and we did not know where to throw it. In the summer of 2011, tired of asking mom and dad where to throw this or that I decline, I think of doing something to make this gesture easier for everyone. So I decide to create an app, which works as a search engine, in which just write the name of the material to be recycled and it is immediately indicated in which container to throw it. A simple idea, but I soon discover that in Italy there was nothing like it!
2) How does it work? What information and information does it provide to the user?
The Waste Dictionary is a public utility service that provides support to citizens who carry out the recycling and who often have difficulties. Citizens will no longer be able to make the wrong color of the bin, because the platform will indicate the right conferment of the I decline wanted. There is a constantly evolving database which today has more than 850 entries. You can view the collection calendar of your neighborhood at any time of the day and by activating a notification service you will no longer be able to forget / mistake the collection day. In addition, information on points of interest (collection centers, environmental offices) and information on the collection of bulky waste.
3) Are there any other features you would like to implement and add?
Important features are being tested that will allow administrations to improve the relationship with citizens by exploiting new technologies.
4) How long did it take you to design it? Who believed in you and how did you make it happen?
The first version of the Waste Dictionary I made it within a month. In recent months my idea has become a point of reference for thousands of citizens throughout Italy and what was born almost as a joke soon became a serious matter, which has a lot of potential to grow. So I got other people involved: waste designers and experts, developers. Together with the team we are analyzing the needs of citizens on the basis of the types of service and we are continuously improving the Dictionary to make it more and more a quality project.
5) How many municipalities have joined so far? Which geographic areas participated most?
The municipalities that have joined are 35 and they provide specific information to citizens. In the coming weeks, other municipalities will become "Different Municipalities" and will join the network of Waste Dictionary. I must say that there is a fairly uniform distribution of the dictionary's activations across the territory. The Waste Dictionary provides two types of research: generic and geo-localized, the generic one is aimed at citizens of those municipalities who have not yet joined the initiative, who obtain the information provided by the main supply chain consortia.
6) Which devices can you access with?
The Waste Dictionary is aimed at citizens who are struggling daily with separate waste collection, who will be able to access it from the website www.dtionarydeirifiuti.it or through the app for both Android smartphones / tables and for iPhones and iPads.
7) Do you have other similar apps in mind in the future? In the "green" field?
I have a couple of ideas in mind that I would like to develop in various fields, from green to the open date. The goal will be to take advantage of new technologies to provide users with easy-to-use and support tools in daily life.
