Tips for reducing and recycling waste

Tips for reducing and recycling waste. Reduce the production of waste starting from our home; to recycle and favor the recycling of everything that can be reused. Let's apply these two rules, all in all simple, and we will have given our best contribution to the management of waste, one of the emergencies of our times.

It has been estimated that about 80 percent of waste products could be reused as they are or treated. For decades everything has ended up in landfills or incinerators, the few that exist in Italy, but now there is no more room. We must become 'recyclers', As Legambiente calls the Municipalities that stand out in the good recycling.

The recycling reduces the need to find places to eliminate waste and through the recycling and the reuse non-regenerable resources are used more economically and effectively. In addition the recycling encourages to protect the local environment and, if we enlarge the perimeter, to conserve the planet's resources. In addition, an adequate waste management it can be profitable and, when used properly, it can also become a source of energy.

THE waste however, they should be reduced even before recycling them. Reduce there waste production is the first step in proper waste management. Where to start? First of all, let's start buying only what we need. The selection between 'useful' and 'useless' will decrease our staff waste production, and without realizing it will raise the quality of our purchases.

We learn to reuse and repair objects whenever possible, and we avoid as much as possible using what we cannot to recycle. It is true that we are in the disposable age, or maybe we are luckily coming out of some, but quality items that can be repaired and last a long time are better in all respects than those that do not last long and must be replaced.

We avoid as much as possible plastics, which are difficult to divide and to recycle due to the huge variety of chemical compounds that require separate treatment. It is true that we cannot do without plastic, but whenever possible we prefer natural materials such as wood, metals, stones ... recycle easily. This is for reduce waste that end up in landfills.

We reuse plastic shopping bags as much as possible, if we still have them, or bring our own canvas bag from home. In almost all shops today biodegradable mater-bi bags are used, excellent, but let's not abuse them. We avoid plastic and disposable bottles, we prefer glass ones that can be reused by returning the empty ones, or to recycle easily.

We avoid packaged products, such as meats and vegetables on polystyrene trays covered with adherent films. These packs clutter up, they are difficult sometimes impossible to to recycle, pollute excessively. Keeping away products packaged in this way is one of the first rules for reduce waste. Better to buy over the counter, where the products are also fresher and contain no preservative gases. Paper packs are better.

We transform vegetable waste from the kitchen into fertilizer home composting, and if we have a piece of land we go even further by doing the composting of the whole wet fraction of waste. Let's get busy in our local community to organize the separate waste collection and let us commit ourselves (because it is difficult) to observe it.
