Make a mosaic, useful information

  • Make large mosaics therefore at least 30 x 30 cm
  • Before creating a mosaic of tiles, try to establish where to place it: a mosaic with tiles for interiors, for example, placed outdoors would have the inevitable consequence of breaking the tiles and ruining your work, since indoor tiles would not resist. to bad weather.

Make a mosaic, procedure
First step: preparation of the concrete support for the mosaic.

  1. Create a formwork with four pieces of wood three centimeters high and join them to create a square (at least 30 x 30): make sure that the internal angles are 90 degrees.
  2. Arrange the formwork on a smooth surface which can be a sheet of plastic, polystyrene, etc .: a material that does not bind to the cement and which would then be difficult to remove.
  3. After preparing the formwork, pour the sand and cement-based cement mixture into it, taking care to press it well to prevent air bubbles from forming inside
  4. Then level the compound on the top level of the formwork using another piece of wood.
  5. Wait for the compound to harden to remove it from the formwork: here is your square-sized concrete tile that will act as a support for gluing our pieces of tiles to make the mosaic

Second step: preparation of the mosaic

  1. Arrange the tile chips near the support dividing them by color
  2. Take the tile adhesive and mix according to the instructions on the package.
  3. Spread the adhesive on the substrate using a notched trowel to distribute it with the characteristic stepped streak.
  4. Start from the outside, gradually placing the pieces of tile that have a straight side along the edge
  5. Complete the entire perimeter and then proceed towards the center, continuing to glue, leaving spaces between one tile and another that are not too narrow or too wide: check frequently with a perfectly straight piece of wood, to make sure there are no depressions.

Third step: finishing the mosaic. Once the mosaic is finished, there will be some empty spaces between the tiles that must be filled with grout.

  1. Mix the filler in the color of your choice following the instructions on the package
  2. Spread the product with a rubber spatula inside the interstices: repeat the operation several times in opposite directions to facilitate the escape of air bubbles
  3. Remove excess grout to make it flush with the tiles.
  4. Wait for the grout to harden just enough then remove the dirt that will inevitably remain on the tile splinters: a damp sponge is enough to gently pass over the mosaic

Now yours mosaic it's ready. You just have to proceed in the same way and make as many plates as you need to cover the chosen surface.
