Functional and beautiful, customizable, too: these are the products of eco-sustainable design by Lessmore e Giorgio Caporaso tells how they were conceived, the novelty they represent today and above all, what lies ahead in the future of the whole world of eco-sustainable design, and not only.
1) When did the Lessmore project start and how did the idea come about?
The project of eco-sustainable design Lessmore has been there for a long time: in fact, for years, I have been interested in sustainability and the possibilities offered by some natural, recycled and recyclable materials. Through my architecture and design studio I have developed projects and prototypes that have “announced” the birth of the brand. More than an idea, Lessmore is a desire for me: a desire creative, planning and ethical. In each professional field, not only in the design, it would be necessary to try to review production in terms of sustainability, future and respect for the environment.
2) What are the main characteristics of your production?
Our products of eco-sustainable design they also have low environmental impact, due to a design study based on the 'liveability' of the product, and not only because they are manufactured with green production methods. The Ecodesign Collection is a line of innovative objects designed to exist in a way functional and eco-sustainable and above all to try to live long even in case of new needs. They are in fact transformable, modular, composable, assembled and disassembled, customizable and repairable.
3) What are the green aspects of the materials used?
The corrugated cardboard is the main protagonist of the Lessmore production. Recycled, recyclable, biodegradable immediately communicates that it is eco-sustainable design. Then there is the mixture with precious woods (oak / teak) but the challenge is no longer to use cardboard as a fall-back material but to enhance some of its unique peculiarities and characteristics to create elegant, sophisticated design objects that can be used in any type of environment. The collection features a high degree of customization, all objects and furnishings can be chosen with particular profiles and coatings, both natural such as wood, stone, felt and everyone can modify the "skin" of their furnishings with surfaces and new collections.
4) And the green aspects of the product manufacturing process?
The eco-sustainable design of these products has also been investigated to reduce processing waste and reduce the material used: in the "More" module, waste is almost zero because the waste of an element is reused as a smaller functional element within the furniture system. Of course, the storage and handling of material are also factors that we consider crucial and on which the company is working to improve.
5) What is your target? Who is most interested?
There is a good appreciation of the news as well as by private individuals sensitive to these issues, even in the commercial sectors, shops, in the hotel industry and in catering and hospitality. These are companies, shops and hotels that are already attentive to the environmental issue but who need to communicate these "intangible" values directly also through something eco-sustainable design concrete and pleasant,. Then there are the design lovers, who appreciate both functionality and aesthetics in these furnishings, and a particular interest is also starting to move from the world of set-up, for the creation of particular and attractive stands, scenographies and also shop windows and showrooms.
6) What difficulties does a product like this encounter on the market?
We are a recent commercial novelty and are receiving positive feedback. I am dedicating myself to new projects of eco-sustainable design which will also be able to expand the Lessmore catalog itself. Those who know the products tell me they are pleasantly impressed. It will be necessary to concentrate on expanding the distribution and commercial circuit in order to make the products more visible and "experimentable": the resistance and practicality of the seats as well as the consistency and carrying capacity of the bookcases or tables, can make the customer understand that such furnishings can actually replace traditional furnishings by even bringing one different sensoriality as well as unique and peculiar.
7) Has the approach of customers and the market changed with respect to products like yours?
Today more and more people feel involved in the environmental issue and it has become an essential necessity, the resources of our world risk running out and we must search for new ways. We all had to face and change our habits, I hope the products of eco-sustainable design how those of Lessmore can be one of the responses of design to these highly current issues and lead to an increasingly decisive change towards increasingly eco-sustainable products.
