Do-it-yourself composter, instructions

Waste can become an important resource to be recycled, especially organic waste; they can be transformed into fertilizer for the garden with the use of a domestic composter. And in addition to obtaining an excellent natural fertilizer for your plants, composting will also allow you to greatly reduce the amount of waste to throw away. You miss the composter? In this regard, we will show you the instructions to make one DIY composter quickly and easily.

DIY composter, what you need

  • Plastic bin
  • Mosquito net: the size depends on the size of the bin
  • Plastic threads
  • Drill
  • Scotch tape
  • Expanded clay
  • Topsoil
  • Earthworms

Do-it-yourself composter, the procedure

  1. Turn the plastic bin over and with the help of the drill drill holes with a diameter of half a centimeter both on the bottom and on the sides: it serves to promote good breathability; the outcome of the compost also depends on this
  2. Make sure that the holes to be made on the sides of the bin are close together so as to facilitate the tying of the net inside the bin
  3. Leave the bin upside down and take the measurements to cut the first piece of mosquito net that will be positioned on the bottom: when cutting, leave a margin of 10 cm more net than the perimeter of the bin. In this way we will have a sufficiently abundant border for the subsequent internal binding
  4. Once you have cut the net, place it on the bottom and secure it with the gardening ties through the holes you made in the bottom
  5. Once this is done, cut the mosquito net to the internal measurement (height and width) of the bin: also in this case it will be necessary to leave at least 10 cm more
  6. Secure the net with the garden ties through the holes you made on the sides
  7. Block the net on the edge with the help of the adhesive tape
  8. Pour some expanded clay on the bottom of the bin: it will help prevent the compost from rotting;
  9. Take the mosquito net and cut another circle around the bottom perimeter plus the usual 10 cm in the net then place it on top of the expanded clay
  10. Pour a little soil and place some earthworms and
