- The position of the water intake point.
To build aDIY drip irrigation systemyou need:
- Pruning shears for cutting pipes
- Drill with a 6 mm "soft" bit (or from the diameter of the collaterals)
- Clips to fix the supporting tube to the wall / railing (in case of installation on a terrace or balcony)
- Irrigation timer with programmer
- Splitter to connect a supporting pipe for the drip system and a water pipe for other needs (washing the balcony, drawing water ...)
- Possible pressure reducer
- Semi-rigid 16 mm polyethylene tubing or 4 × 6 mm soft microtube ***
- Elbows, tees and sleeves
- Drippers for water distribution
- Any distributor modules and terminal modules
- Possible flexible hose
*** Semi-rigid tube is great in case of adrip plantintended for open-air cultivation, a soft 4 × 6 mm micro-tube is more suitable for balconies.

I have reported this kit for several reasons, first of all it has an excellent value for money and then the drips can spray water both drip and rain, so as to also adapt to particular bonsai or ornamental plants. Then it must be said that it is a rather versatile kit, that is, it can be connected to pre-existing pipes and can be readjusted to the new crop every year. Of course, all kits do this a little (just have a little practical sense), so you choose the one that best reflects your needs.
The DIY drip irrigation kit can be connected to a timer to be purchased separately. Timers can be more or less expensive based on the performance offered.
DIY drip irrigation without kit
If you have individually purchased the material indicated in the list above, the assembly instructions are as follows.
The supporting tube must be connected to the control unit (timer) and to the pressure reducer by means of a short flexible tube (about one meter long), the hose connection can be made with a straight connection, with an elbow connection or with a tee fitting as needed.
The fittings can be hooked to the supporting tube by direct drilling (with the drill, holes are made from the diameter of the dripping tubes to create the so-called toggles), alternatively it is possible to use specific distributor modules which have the advantage of being able to be managed individually.
1. Insert the splitter, the control unit, the pressure reducer.
2. Connect the hose to the controller assembly
3. Mount the irrigation system using the modules and fittings
4. If necessary, fasten the mesh to the terrace structures
5. Prepare the groups of drippers plant by plant
￼6. Connect the outlet tube to the distributor module (or to the hole in the tube) and bring it up to the plant.
7. Connect the dripper to the tube. Secure the drippers with the rods.
