How to grow cyclamen, useful information

  • The bulbs should be planted in capacious pots: not too small but not huge, they should also be buried at a depth of 3-5 cm, leaving a space of 8-15 cm between them.
  • At the bottom of the base of the pot, clay material should be placed to allow the earth to better drain the water
  • Cyclamen should be placed in an area that is not too sunny and dry: they do not like direct sunlight
  • The soil must always be kept moist: watering will need to be adjusted according to the climatic conditions. In order not to make a mistake, it is advisable to put water in the saucer, so the plant will draw from the reserves when it is thirsty
  • To keep cyclamen alive in the summer, the flowers must be allowed to fall naturally: this happens around mid-June
  • In autumn, cyclamen should be transplanted into a pot with fresh earth with a clay base and placed in a bright area
  • In winter, be careful of frosts and cold winds: those who live in temperate areas can leave the cyclamen on the terrace for the whole winter
  • Dry leaves or damaged petals must be eliminated immediately: you will give the plant the opportunity to recover quickly and without serious consequences
  • Throughout the winter, the cyclamen must be watered every day, without creating stagnation in the ground
  • Cyclamen must be fertilized once a month: during the flowering period it will be useful to apply fertilizer at least twice a month
  • Since they like to stay away from direct exposure to the sun, it is advisable to mulch in the summer months to keep the soil cool and moist
  • In case of attack by aphids it will be necessary to apply a specific pesticide.
