On the occasion ofDetroit Auto Show 2015thereHyundaipresented hisnew hybrid car in simple or plug-in version, let's talk about theHyundai Sonata Hybridis Sonata Plug-in Hybrid.


The two versions ofHybrid Sonatathey are distinguished, on an aesthetic level, for bumpers and specific aerodynamic choices. It is under the hood that the differences become more concrete:

thereHyundai Sonata Hybrid has a 1.62 kW / h lithium polymer battery hidden under the luggage compartment; the accumulator supplies energy to the 38 kW electric motor. The petrol engine is a 4-cylinder 2.0 GDI. The hybrid system offers a total output of 193 hp, the power-train is combined with a six-speed automatic transmission.

ThereHybrid Sonatait offers more than 10% improved fuel consumption compared to the previous model with an average, in the combined cycle, of 5.6 liters per 100 km.

In the versionPlug-inthe overall power of the hybrid system increases and also the efficiency: if with theHybrid Sonatait is possible to travel only a few kilometers with zero emissions and in particular conditions, with theSonata Plug-in Hybriddriving in electric-only mode offers 35 km with zero emissions. Specifically, we see that the same petrol direct injection engine (four-cylinder, 2.0 GDI) is powered by a 9.8 kWh lithium polymer battery.

The internal combustion engine is flanked by a 50 kW electric engine, overall the hybrid system reaches 202 HP of power. The technical data sees a maximum torque of 190 Nm.

ThereSonata Plug-in Hybridit can travel up to 35 km in pure electric driving mode, while the declared fuel consumption for the mixed cycle is 5.88 liters per 100 km.

According to the data declared by the manufacturer, charging times are about 150 minutes with a 240 V charger while it takes 5 hours with the classic 120 V domestic socket.

The newSonata Plug-in Hybridis accompanied by the smartphone applicationBlue Link. The practical application allows access to a series of remote control and vehicle monitoring commands. Using the application, it is possible to interrupt a recharge or start it or, again, set a weekly and hourly schedule to recharge the vehicle using the electricity network in the most economical times.

Thanks to the app, it is possible to manage the on-board climate, which is very useful for finding the cabin cool in summer and warm in winter. The App allows access to thevehicle diagnostics therefore it will be possible to know, at any time, the remaining battery life. The car will debut on the market in the second half of 2015.
